Mama Hawk and the Rescued Babies

Just testing to see if I could upload an image that is 2.2 mg to my blog and it works!!

This is a picture of the mama hawk who came back to nurture her babies after we build a makeshift nest for them. We found her original nest destroyed and these little ones barely surviving it on the ground. They grew up quickly and have now flown away to start their own lives!

A Cultural Exchange Package from our Friends in Idiazabal, Cordoba in Argentina!

We are so excited about the package that arrived from our friends in Idiazabal!! The students wrote to us about many of the features of the Argentinean culture. They sent pictures, music and videos on CDs along with brochures, school banners, a mate cup and straw, local recipes and rosaries from the Jesuit GuaranĂ Missions! The Mission is where our current Pope did his work prior to becoming the leader of the Catholic faith. Check out this display of all the goodies they sent!

Here's a close up of the rosaries!

Here's the mate cup and straw along with an explanation and a recipe for empanadas!

And finally, a school banner that celebrates their first 50 years!!! We wish them many, many more successful years of educating the children of Idiazabal!!!

Our Spanish III students are hoping to send videos of school life in Houston to our Argentinean friends before we leave for summer break next week! We have all learned so much this year through all of our exchanges via email, Skype and even mail! It is my hope that someday we will meet in person, in fact it is our ultimate goal!!

Welcome Back our Friends from Idiazabal!

We are so happy our Argentinean friends are back in school after their summer break so we can Skype again!! Our care package filled with some MHS t-shirts, colorful gel pens, and post-it notes was well received. We could tell because the two students who won the shirts were wearing them on camera! Look closely at the 1st picture below. Our Spanish III students conversed with their students about all the things they did over our spring break and their summer break. It was another amazing experience for all of us!

Who Knew????

Who knew writing on desks could be an instructional technique? Check out these student created World History webs on the French Revolution. Student groups divided up the material and each individual was responsible for his/her part. In class they built the webs and took digital pics that could then be used on a group quiz. Each group member had access to one photo only so it definitely required collaboration and teamwork! Great job Ms. Young!!!
